The designation
Only designated centres can give it.
Yellow fever vaccine can only be given at centres designated by the Public Health Agency of Canada. Cunard Pharmacy & Clinic, where AbroadRx appointments take place, is on the agency's list of designated Yellow Fever Vaccination Centres for Nova Scotia.

Some countries require proof of yellow fever vaccination for entry, often depending on where you have travelled before arriving.
In other places the vaccine is recommended because the disease is present, even when no country requires a certificate.

Book with the 10-day rule in mind.
- For a first vaccination, the International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis becomes valid 10 days after the dose. Book at least two weeks before departure where you can.
- One dose is now considered to give lifelong protection for most people; the certificate no longer needs renewing every ten years.
- The vaccine is not suitable for everyone. Infants under nine months, people with certain immune conditions, and some travellers aged 60 and over need an individual assessment, and a medical waiver can sometimes be issued instead.

- A review of your itinerary, health history, and immunization record
- A decision on whether yellow fever vaccine is required, recommended, or best avoided for you
- The vaccine and your signed International Certificate, when appropriate
- Any other travel vaccines or prescriptions your trip calls for
The travel consultation fee applies (from $80 for the first traveller). The vaccine itself is charged separately; the price is confirmed before anything is given.

Usually, yes. If the assessment confirms it is appropriate for you, the vaccine and the certificate are provided at the same appointment.
How long is the yellow fever certificate valid?
Since 2016 a single dose is accepted as valid for life under the International Health Regulations. The certificate becomes valid 10 days after a first vaccination.
Do I need the vaccine if I am only transiting through a country?
Sometimes. Certain countries apply entry requirements to travellers who have passed through a yellow fever area, even briefly. Bring your full routing, including layovers, and it will be checked.
